The adoption of rising forms of technology is largely spearheaded by an unlike, yet large, industry – the adult entertainment sector. Be it Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning, and blockchain, the porn industry evidently embraces technology.

In this regard, cryptocurrencies are not far behind, and one of the world’s top 20 cryptocurrencies may soon feature as a means-of-payment on PornHub.

PornHub and Cryptocurrency

As per a report on Variety, Montreal-headquartered Pornhub, one of the world’s most visited porn websites, is in talks with Tron Foundation’s Justin Sun to include the latter’s native cryptocurrency as payment. The development follows Sun’s acquisition of peer-to-peer file sharing network BitTorrent.

Reports suggest PornHub may also include ZenCash, a privacy-centric cryptocurrency ranking 116 in the world with regards to market cap.

Pornhub VP Corey Price said in a statement:

“Decentralized payment systems have continued to grow in popularity, and cryptocurrency adoption is exploding across a broad economic spectrum. Today, cryptocurrencies are especially viable in the adult entertainment industry because they are privacy-centric and incorporate more anonymity tools than traditional tender.”

At the time of writing, TRX trades at $0.03 and is the world’s 11th largest cryptocurrency protocol by market cap.

Verge Partnership with PornHub

In April 2018, BTCManager reported on PornHub’s decision to accept the anonymous-cryptocurrency Verge for payments on its platform.

Pornhub has endorsed the partnership with a short video on YouTube which was shown along with a futuristic dialogue in the year 2077 amid a grandfather and his grandson in terms where Verge becomes the currency worldwide. Ahead of the promotional video on YouTube, Pornhub also confirms that the kick off will also be marked by events in Silicon Valley and New York City.

Litecoin creator Charlie Lee deemed the adoption of a cryptocurrency to be good for the entire sector:

In March 2018, Verge asked its users to donate about $3 million worth of XVG to disclose the budding partnership. This confirmation regarding the partnership amid Pornhub and Verge was slated to be revealed on March 26. However, Verge postponed it to April 17.

While the cryptocurrency touts itself as anonymity focused and was deemed as the most suitable for Pornhub’s business, a site linking IP addresses to Verge transactions emerged in January 2018, which contradicted the Verge team’s claims, and showed that the privacy offered is most likely no better than bitcoin, litecoin or many other altcoins.
