
On June 27, 2018, the California-based basketball team Sacramento Kings announced a charity initiative MiningForGood, which will mine Ether in a bid to help the local community and also inspire the coming generation to bring change in their community and around the world.
Crypto to Uplift Sacramento Community
In a statement by the team’s owner and chairman, Vivek Ranadivé said, “Opportunity begins when technology allows the world to find innovative solutions to complex problems.”
Going further, the chairman emphasized that “Through MiningForGood, not only will we raise funds to help with workforce development and training, we aim to inspire the next generation of tinkerers and thinkers to create change in their community and around the globe.”
The team will set up its mining rig at the Golden 1 Center located in Downtown Commons and MiningStore.com has been chosen to supply the mining equipment in the sporting arena where the mining will be done.
“We’re thrilled to partner with a forward-thinking organization that looks for ways to create positive change – through technology or sports,” said the founder of MiningStore JohnPaul Baric.
Sacramento Kings Sets an Example
NBA franchise the Kings stated that the proceeds from the MiningForGood programme would be used in supporting the black community in Sacramento. For that matter, Kings have partnered with Build. Black. Coalition, a group that endeavors to bring radical transformation in the black community. The proceeds will be used for workforce development and technology education programs in the city.
Chet P. Hewitt, a founding member of the Build. Black. Coalition said:
“Our innovative partnership with the Sacramento Kings is an example of how technology can both inspire the next generation entrepreneurs and support the development of a 21st-century workforce in Sacramento. What is amazing about this effort is our collective commitment to ensuring youth from every community have the opportunity to participate and succeed in our regions economic renaissance.”
In the past, the Kings’ were also one of the first sports franchise to initiate Bitcoin payment in partnership with BitPay to offer its fans the ability to pay for tickets and merchandise on their online store.
